I have always been interested in the works of Hans Christian Andersen and thought that this particular story would make a good vehicle for music. It was commissioned by Kid Stuff Records and recorded in this version (woodwind quintet, trumpet, piano & narrator). I have since then transcribed it for chamber orchestra. As a point of interest, the full orchestral score is on display at the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Denmark.
