June 6 - 13 Joseph Turrin and Melody Alesi travel to Germany with Kurt Masur and the NY Philharmonic for the European premiere of Hemispheres in Cologne and Baden-Baden. Great success and wonderful audiences! More photos and reviews soon. June 16 - 21 Hemispheres goes to Asia.

West Point Military Academy Band Commissions a new work for 2002

New York Philharmonic Luncheon and Press Conference January 4, 2001 at 12:15 pm Grand Promenade of Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center

The New York Philharmonic and Music Director Kurt Masur have recently commissioned composer Joseph Turrin to write a new work. This work will be entitled HEMISPHERES scored for woodwinds, brass, percussion, harp and piano. This new composition at the request of Kurt Masur will be composed for his final farewell concert with the New York Philharmonic. This work will be Masurs last and most important commission for this orchestra. For this final concert Masur has chosen to program Bartoks Divertimento, Turrins (new work) HEMISPHERES, and the Beethoven Third (Eroica) Symphony. Performance dates are: May 30, 31, and June 1, 2002 at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City.

Griffith in 1919) This is Turrin's second silent film score for Kino International To be released in October, 2000 in DVD format In 1998 Turrin scored a documentary for Kino (KINGDOM OF SHADOWS) narrated by actor Rod Steiger

The NEW JERSEY STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS awards fellowship to Joseph Turrin The fellowship Program is intended to recognize artistic excellence and to help those artists further their work and professional development. A new work in three movements for Trumpet and Wind Symphony entitled CHRONICLES written for Philip Smith (Principal Trumpet / NY Philharmonic). Commissioned by the University of New Mexico, Northwestern University, Michigan State University, New Mexico State University, Texas Tech University, Baylor University, University of South Florida, Sam Houston University, University of Oregon, and Yale University. The Premiere will take place on February 26, 1999 at the CBDNA National Conference at the University of Texas in Austin. The soloist will be Philip Smith with the University of New Mexico Wind Symphony conducted by Eric Rombach-Kendall.

Three performances on November 21,22, 29,1998 by the Miami Valley Symphony in Dayton, Ohio. The premiere performance of this film with live orchestra was given at Dartmouth College in May,1997

Joseph Turrin's JAZZALOGUE NO. 1 will be performed by the New York Philharmonic on their tour Asia (June 1-25, 1998) The work was commissioned for the New York Philharmonic's 1997 Latin America Tour.

Joseph Turrin has been commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and the City of New York for New York 100. The new work is a duet for trumpeters Wynton Marsalis and Philip Smith along with the NY Philharmonic conducted by Kurt Masur. Entitled TWO GERSHWIN PORTRAITS the work is based on the songs Someone to Watch Over Me and Fascinating Rhythm by George Gershwin. Concert date: July 10, 1998 (Rain date: July 11). Place: Central Park (Great Lawn) New York City
